When Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling got married on December
1, 1927, T.V. Soong, the bride's brother, gave them as a wedding
gift a large English-style garden villa, which was named "Ai Lu"
by Chiang Kai-shek ("Ai" means both "Love" and "Favorite"; "Lu"
means "House"). Now this house has been turned into a high
school attached to the Music Academy of Shanghai. When Chiang
Kai-shek was in power, he used to use this villa as his
temporary home when he visited Shanghai. |
