Description:   As the largest river in Shanghai, Huangpu River is one of the earliest purpose-excavated and dredged rivers. It is 114 kilometers long, starting from Dingshan Lake in Qingpu County to Yangtze River at Wusongkou. It is an average of 400 meters wide and 9 meters deep, and is regarded as Shanghai’s "mother river" since Shanghai gets most of its drinking water from it. The river winds through the entire city, dividing Shanghai into two regions: Pudong on the east bank and Puxi on the west. Shanghai’s famous Bund can be found on the west side of the river.   A cruise is perhaps the best way to fully view and appreciate Huangpu River. Cruises are a daily event on the river, including shorter cruises which cover the main waterfront area between the Yangpu Bridge and Nanpu Bridges, as well as and full river cruises which meander eastward along the golden waterway to Wusongkou. Along the river you can enjoy not only the Bund and other classic buildings in different architectural styles in Puxi, but also the skyscrapers in Pudong. Views along the river are a joy to behold at any time of the day or night.
