Pura Luhur Batukaru

 Address:
 Known as:
Description:   Pura Luhur Batukaru is a Balinese Temple located on the slopes of Mount Batukaru in Tabanan. The temple is amongst the nine directional temples on the island.
As one of the directional temples in Bali, it is believed that the temple offers protection of the island from dark spirits, particularly those coming from the sea.
The temple traces its history to the 11th Century when it was constructed as a dedication to the rajas of the regency at the time.
In the early 17th century, the temple was destroyed and remained in that state up until the 20th century when it was reconstructed.
Pura Luhur Batukaru is home to a unique shrine that is perhaps the most prominent attraction. This shrine contains a meru tower with seven distinct levels. The shrine was constructed as an offering to the god of Mount Batukaru, the Mahadewa god.
